(guess I should have cleaned my mirror for you! nah, we're friends, right?)
I've been doing a lot of reflecting. About being home from vacation. How to jump into the disorganization that is my house. Getting the kids ready to start back to school in 3 weeks. All the little projects I want to do. But mostly, I've been doing a lot of reflecting on food.
See, I think my family does pretty well in the food department. Sortof. We eat MOSTLY organic. I've turned into a fairly avid label reader. And I haven't bought produce at the grocery since that long ago post when I declared I was going to try to make it the whole summer using only local and homegrown goods. (Well, there was that one time on vacation that I bought lettuce and some peaches from Trader Joe's. Can't vouch as to where they came from)
But now, in addition to the whole "high fructose corn syrup" thing, I've been stewing on the whole "genetically modified" thing. Creeps. me. out. And sure enough, I pulled my trusty Canola out of the cabinet last night, and ConAgra is right there on the label. I just didn't know. The fact that GM foods do not have to be labeled is an abomination.
So now, I'm off to ponder...
(You totally got that this was the last installment of Tracy's color week, right?)
That genetically modified thing has kind of freaked me out as well. It seems like everything is slowly becoming very bad for me..so I'm off to the farmers market.I've left you a little treat at my blog! I hope you enjoy it!

Noticed the yellow right away! Great image. I agree with you about all the icky stuff we are eating. It is great to buy local produce etc...though I must say, in Calgary it's winter most of the year so as far as the veggie department goes there really is not much you can do between October and May but buy whatever is available in the supermarket. Oh well; it makes summer so much more special.

of course I noticed the yellow.
The GM thing creeps me out too. As well as the corn syrup thing. And the past few months, erm, well, maybe year, I've been feeling just, not quite right. Not bad, but not exactly the top of my health. And I can't help but wonder if part of it has to do with what I put in my body. And that scares me.

GM foods freak me out! And it is horrible that we don't have to be told what they're in. I'm even trying to plant mostly heirloom seeds or organic seeds because I don't like the big seed companies either. Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean that they aren't out to get me!!

I can't help but feel somebody will have to give birth to a three armed child before much action is taken on the GM front.....it is sickeningly worrying. So many chemicals are poured into our food and yet people wonder about the soaring cases of ADHD and behavioural issues in kids. I say go organic, go unprocessed. :)
(not that I am impartial to the odd doughnut or 2)

I agree with you on the GM issue and we try to buy as little processed foods as we can.

Hi, found you via yellow week. Really interesting post (and my windows look like your mirror - lol!). Here in the UK I've been listening to a radio debate about Palm Oil. It's a bit like the corn syrup issue as it's added to all kinds of foods. I don't know if it's a GM issue but it's resulting in large parts of rainforest being torn down in order to make space for palm oil crops and it's a substance that the body finds hard to get rid of. Shocking what goes into so called 'food' nowadays!

The more you read the labels, the less you want to. We've given up artificial flavors and colors (which wasn't so hard) but the corn syrup is impossible!

I'm trying to eat from our garden too, and was just at Trader's and stocked up! (we don't have one here).
Fun visiting you!
